Mission & Vision

We are a community of faith in the Episcopal Church that celebrates the manifestation of God’s love in the world by praying, studying, working, eating and playing together.

About Epiphany

The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany began in 1956 as a mission parish in Newton. To this day, we carry a warm heart for outreach and mission that many small churches struggle to cultivate.

We are one of 65 parishes belonging to the Diocese of Western North Carolina, under the guidance of our beloved bishop, The Right Reverend José A. McLoughlin. The Diocesan Offices are in Asheville on Centre Park Drive, and the diocese reaches from those beautiful Blue Ridge mountains all the way East to the outskirts of the Charlotte/Huntersville area.

Drawn to and guided by the healing light of Jesus Christ, our members of Epiphany seek to be ministers of caring in Christ’s name. We gather together each week and more to strengthen our faith, support and enjoy our friendships with one another, and recharge our spirits for our lives of ministry in our community and in the world.

Epiphany is the Greek word for “appearance” or “revelation.” It is the Christian feast day that celebrates the “shining forth,” or revelation, of God in human form in the person of Jesus Christ. Epiphany also commemorates the arrival of the Magi who followed the star to find Jesus and bring him gifts. The feast falls on January 6.

As a parish, we at Epiphany strive to be mindful of our name. We gather as followers of Jesus Christ - God who became flesh and dwelt among us. We have seen God revealed to us in many ways. We bring both ourselves and our gifts to Him. The faithful who have gone before us are beloved saints in light and give us a heritage of inspiration to continue our ministries.

The light of faith that shines from within each of us gives our parish strength and purpose. Our hope is that we are nurturing Christ’s light in our souls. As a parish, we intend to bring the lights of love, hope and grace into the dim places we encounter in our journey of ministry in Jesus’ name.
